Medical Consultant Urges Employers To Ensure Good Health Of Workers

Tema, (Greater Accra) 23 Oct.,

Dr. Albert Quainoo, a medical consultant, has called on employers and managers to ensure workers continuous good health in order to increase production. ''They should create both the working environment and methods to safeguard life.'' Dr. Quainoo, who is also a lecturer at the University of Ghana, made the call at a symposium organised by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) as part of activities marking the Authority's safety week in Tema today. His topic was ''The role of management towards health safety and environmental issues affecting port employees''. He stressed the need for employers to make legal provisions which would protect the health and safety of workers. ''Workers must be apprised of hazards of their working environment through effective information and they should not be left alone to find things out for themselves through trial and error at great cost to life but through information.'' Dr. Quainoo said there is the need for management to ensure that employees undergo periodic health examinations and records should be kept for the good of the individual and for cost benefit.
