Medical Assistant Wins Nightingale Award

Accra (GAR), June 27, - Mr Samuel Abudu Seidu, a medical assistant in the Gushiegu Karaga district in the Northern Region, was one of eight nurses world-wide who won the 36th award of the Flor The award, which was instituted by the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1912, is to honour nurses who have distinguished themselves. The announcement of Mr Seidu's selection was made in May this year. For his award, Mr Seidu, was given a medal and a certificate. He won the award because of the distinguished role he played single-handedly during the 1994 Northern conflict which led to the death of hundreds of people and displacement of many others. In an interview with the press, Mr Seidu recalled that "it was tiresome and horrible." He said he had to bury the dead and care for the sick single- handedly. Mr Seidu who has worked with the Ministry of Health for 27 years said: "I am proud to receive the award and it is a vision fulfilled".
