President of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has urged government and workers in both public and private sector to innovate ways that will reduce the rate of youth unemployment in the country as Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark this year’s May Day.

According to him, May Day, which is celebrated to recognise the contributions of workers worldwide, isn’t a day for relaxation but rather a day to plan and think of innovative ways to bring solutions to workers and/or create more jobs for the people.

“In Ghana, we talk about jobs, earnings, pensions, we talk about so many different things and yet we do the kinds of things that don’t encourage all of that to prosper".

So I’m hoping that this year, those in positions of authority, those in government, those who are in regulatory authority positions of all types, those who are supposed to encourage businesses to thrive and do well so we can be employing more people, I want them to think that May Day isn’t just a day for resting, it’s a day for them to think through how they are going to encourage the men and women who create jobs to do more so many more people can be employed,” he said.

Youth unemployment has been a major problem in this country for far too long and worsened in recent times with the ban placed on public sector employment by the International Monetary Fund.

To address this issue, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today, prior to the May Day parade, launched the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO), which will employ100,000 graduates who have completed their National Service to assist in the public sector service delivery needs of Ghana.

The first day of May is a day set aside to celebrate workers worldwide and appreciate their good works. Also known as International Labour Day in other countries, the day is recognized as a public holiday in most countries.

Recognising the efforts of Ghanaians, Dr. Nduom congratulated all hardworking Ghanaians and urged entrepreneurs to never give up in their quest to establish their own businesses.
