Mate defiles 15-year-old girl at Wenchi

The Techiman Circuit Court has remanded Alhaji Dauda Saliu, a 18-year-old Driver’s Mate in police custody to reappear on 6th June 2007 for a llegedly defiling a 15-year-old school-girl at Wenchi.

The accused who was charged with four counts for abduction, defilement, threat to death and escaping from lawful custody pleaded not guilty to all charges preferred against him.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Comfort Nyamesah, told the court presided over by Justice G A Kwasi Kumah, that the victim lives with her parents at Wenchi while Saliu also resides in the town.

She said on May 18 this year, the victim left for school in the morning but failed to return as usual. According to the prosecutor, the father of the victim mounted a search for her for about seven hours and was hinted by a patriotic citizen that Alhaji Saliu has abducted her.

Chief Inspector Nyanmesah stressed that, the victim’ s father went to the accused house and found out that the JSS 1 girl was in the Saliu’s room.

She said the accused drew Knife and threatened to kill the father but with the help of others accused was overpowered and apprehended him and later handed him to the Wenchi Branch of Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for investigations where medical forms was issued to the victim.

Ms Nyamesah said the later attended Wenchi Methodist Hospital where it was confirmed that the victim has been defiled.

She added that while in police cells, Saliu managed to abscond from the police custody but was rearrested by security officials upon the tip off and charged with offense as mentioned above.
