...Billions Of Cedis Of Relief Items Carted From Warehouse
...Top Directors Implicated In Reckless Rape
THE SUN's SPOTLIGHT team has stumbled upon the reckless loot at the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), which deed was committed in the dead hours of the night on the eve of the swearing-in of President J.E A Mills on January 7 this year, and most likely to bleed the Organization's reservoir to early death.According to insiders who confirmed the story to THE SUN, articulator trucks were used in carting stock- piled goods at its warehouse just near GHANAIAN TIMES offices off the Ring Road in Accra, upon the instructions of top directors whose paws are said to be soiled with deals of stinky magnitude. Slippery tongues say the goods, made up of corrugated iron sheets, blankets, bags of rice, sugar, flour, corn and several cereals have since found their way into leading markets across the length and breadth of the country.
'While markets in Accra and beyond especially Kumasi Kejetia and Techiman have accommodated most of the relief items, a large chunk have also found their way into the homes and secret locations of leading lights and junior staff', an impeccable source who wanted to remain anonymous told THE SUN.
Initial checks at NADMO offices just near the TAMARA eating joint drew blanks since officials wanted to remain tight-lipped, having initially put up a cock-and-bull story that NDC hirelings of macho stock had muscled in on them and carted away several stocks of relief goods.
THE SUN can confirm that somewhere in September, the then government released Gh¢7million (thus ¢70 billion) to NADMO for the procurement of relief items as buffer stock, in anticipation of any impending disaster. The paper has gathered that ever since the purchase of the new stock, no serious disaster has hit the nation however, due to various levels of diversion of goods over 60 percent of the stock at the warehouse have vanished without trace.
'Only the top officers would be in a position to tell the whole world what has happened to the goods which some of us are aware have found their way into building sites of these big menâ', yet another insider who also wants to remain anonymous told THE SUN.
NADMO had been controlled by retired ACP Douglas Akrofi Asiedu who acted as the Co-ordinator while back-up support came from Alhaji Yeremiah and Dr. Osei Ackom, two of a kind who have consistently been blamed by even the level-headed for facilitating the removal of the likeable and hardworking former Co-ordinator, George Isaac Amoo. However two reports, one of which self-exonerated Mr. Amoo finally, after dangerous elements roped in rather mischieviously the National Security at a point, have been at variance of each other even though the former co-ordinator remains at peace with himself.
Complaining workers say, they are prepared to reveal underhand dealings, if indeed the state will set up a probe that should sit in camera to receive reports on leading officials' modus operandi.
If indeed truth be told in its entirety, NADMO looks to be the strangest place aside hell where various levels of Nugokpo Juju and Voodoo Benin style have been featuring in the everyday life of some leading personnel at the top of the Organisation's hierarchy.
According to a complaining worker, there was a time esoteric spiritual items such as cowries, the blood of an animal and some frightening items were prepared in a pot, directed at Mr. Amoo.
'Our prayer is that since the corn barn cannot be burnt down minus an input from the mouse, the state must take steps in a courageous manner despite the threat of juju and voodoo to bring all leading officials to book, by accounting for the stolen relief items, he told THE SUN philosophically.
NADMO is an institution created by the state and mandated to benefit by a budget, after which it will have to equip itself with relief goods, enough to take care of disaster victims and areas throughout disaster spots across the nation.
However succeeding governments have always fallen into the temptation of using the Organization as a political tool to control trends of affairs.
