An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a 30-year-old mason into custody for alleged burglary and theft at Spintex in Accra.
Daniel Odai Affotey, charged with unlawful entry, conspiracy to commit a crime, stealing, conspiracy to cause damage, and causing unlawful damage, pleaded not guilty.
The court, presided over by Mr Joseph Yennuban Kunsong, declined bail, citing the likelihood of interference with investigations, and directed the prosecution to conclude investigations expeditiously.
Affotey is to reappear before the court on April 1, 2026.
His alleged accomplice, Kwame Ewonam, is currently at large.
The prosecution said the complainant, a banker residing at Spintex, Accra, returned home on March 4, 2026, to find her doors damaged, rooms ransacked,d and belongings stolen.
It said a report was made to the Police, leading to the retrieval of CCTV footage, which captured Affotey and Ewonam committing the crime using a Toyota Rush vehicle with registration number GX 1219-18.
The prosecution said Affotey was arrested on March 11, 2026, at Labone Cels Bridge Pub and Restaurant following intelligence, and the vehicle was retrieved.
A search at his residence led to the retrieval of travelling bags containing suspected stolen items, including laptops, 11 television sets, 53 mobile phones, jewellery, clothing, home appliances, and other personal effects.
During investigations, the prosecution said Affotey admitted the offence and identified Ewonam as his accomplice.
It said Affotey also stated that on March 4, 2026, at about 1200 hours, he and Ewonam went on a stealing spree within the Spintex area using the rented vehicle and stole cash of 22,350 dollars, 1,000 pounds, GH¢1,000, and other personal effects from the complainant’s residence.
The prosecution said Affotey also admitted that items retrieved from his room were stolen on different dates.
The complainant identified some of the retrieved items, including jewellery, perfumes, gold watches, and external drives, as her property.
The prosecution said the accused persons allegedly rented vehicles, conducted surveillance on targeted individuals, and used the vehicles to facilitate burglary and theft.
