Mason remanded into custody for defilement

A 19-year-old mason who kidnapped and defiled a 14-year-old girl severally at Abuakwa, has been remanded into police custody by the Nkawie circuit court.

Kwame Owusu is said to have also called the father of the victim several times to demand ransom before releasing the girl.

His plea was not taken and would reappear before the court presided by Mr Johnson Abbey on April 22, this year.

Detective Chief Inspector Comfort Amankwaa told the court that the complainant was the father of the victim, who resided at Abuakwa in the Atwima-Nwabiagya South Municipality.

She said on March 29, this year, at about 2 pm, the victim left home and did not return.

The complainant began to search for his daughter.

Chief Inspector Amankwaa said in the course of the search, the complainant received several calls from the suspect demanding an amount of GH¢ 5,000.00 before releasing the girl.

The complainant made a report to the police and the suspect was traced and arrested.

He admitted in his caution statement of having sexual intercourse with the victim, claiming that, she was his girlfriend.

The prosecution said he was charged and brought before the court.
