Mason jailed 8 years for defilement

A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced Branny De Brand, a 25 year-old mason to eight years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling and impregnating a 14-year old school girl.

The accused pleaded guilty and claimed responsibility for the pregnancy.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court, presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante, that the victim lived with her uncle Abubakari Mohammed at Asankrangwa.

He said during the month of December last year, the victim’s aunt, one Elizaberth Anyan, detected that the victim was pregnant.

Chief Inspector Paddy said when the victim was questioned by the aunt, she mentioned the convict as the one who had sex with her.

He said the uncle reported the matter to the Asankrangwa Police and the victim was issued with a medical form to attend hospital for examination and report.

The Prosecutor said that a medical form received from the Asankrangwa Catholic Hospital revealed that the victim was thirteen weeks three days pregnant.

He said Branny was arrested and after investigation he was charged with the offense.
