Market women advised to shun political rivalry

Accra, Sept. 17, GNA - Madam Vida Adjawutor, President of the Makola Market Women Association, has advised market queens and other leaders not to engage in political rivalry or rumour mongering but to concentrate on their trading activities towards economic development. In a speech read for her at a meeting with the women leaders, Madam Adjawutor described as unfortunate, a creeping division among the market women along political lines.

This, she said, was not healthy for the association's growth and warned the women against individuals who seemed not to appreciate the value of peace and harmony in society, and would want to sow seeds of division among their ranks.

Madam Adjawutor appealed to the women to remain calm in the face of any provocations and live up to their responsibilities.

An official of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Officer in-charge of markets reminded the women of the need for them to abide by the city's by-laws by ensuring that they do not misconduct themselves in the markets. 17 Sept. 03
