The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei, is an “alien” who should not be allowed by Ghanaians to choose the next president of the country, a Deputy Communications Director of the National Democratic Party, Mr Ernest Owusu Bempah, has said.
Mr Bempah’s allegation follows the disqualification of 13 presidential aspirants by the EC on Monday, 10 October.
“It’s an affront to our democracy,” Mr Owusu Bempah told Emefa Apawu on Class91.3FM’s 505 news programme, alleging: “… People sit down and clandestinely take decisions, push it to the Electoral Commission, and then that is it … because some paymasters sitting somewhere are giving her instructions as to how to run the Electoral Commission, and that is what is happening today. It’s a shame to our democracy and Charlotte Osei should bow her head down in shame.
“We are giving her 48 hours to rescind her decision or we’ll spill the beans…”
Asked what beans there were to spill, Mr Owusu Bempah said: “Charlotte Osei is the only person who knows what she did and who is pushing her to do what she is doing. ...If she is not working for somebody, if she is not working for a paymaster somewhere, then I don’t know what it is.
“She’s working for the government. I mean it’s obvious. You can see that this is a botched job by the paymasters who are pushing her to do that.
“We cannot sit in our country and allow aliens to come and decide for us who becomes the president of the republic of Ghana. We cannot sit in our country and allow foreigners to come and decide who becomes the president of the republic of Ghana. This is totally unacceptable, and we are going to fight it…
“Charlotte Osei should come out and tell us and prove beyond reasonable doubt where she comes from, where her lineage comes from, and what is her allegiance and nationality. She’s going by the book, so we’ll also take her on by the book and make sure that if you are going to be the Electoral Commission [chair] of the Republic of Ghana, you must be a blue-blooded Ghanaian. So she should come and tell us where she comes from,” Mr Bempah dared the boss of the election management body.
