Marine Police officers, 2 accomplices arrested for stealing from Osagyefo Power barge

The Police at Half Assini in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region has arrested two marine police officers and their accomplices for stealing cables among other items from Osagyefo Power barge, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

According to the police who confirmed the incident to MyNewsGh.com, they stole items including; a six-burner gas stove, a four-burner electric stove, three double door fridges, five pieces of air-conditioners, two double bed mattresses, one sewing machine, quantity of electrical cables, two hacksaw blades, one drilling machine, four water hose and two main electric switches.

Lance Corporal Peter Zator with service number 51028 his colleague Lance Corporal Ibrahim Mohammed also with service number 51481 who confessed to stealing the items from the 125 MW barge-mounted gas turbine electric power generating station, are currently in police custody awaiting to be arraigned before court for the offence.

According to the facts of the case as revealed by police investigators, police in Half Assini received information indicating that some people had gone to steal items from Osagyefo Power badge at Effasu near Half Assini and were loading them into a truck.

They proceeded to the scene intercepted a Benz cargo truck with registration number NR 991 P driven by Alhassan Sadick with four others on board.

A search on the vehicle revealed the stolen items which the driver confessed belonged to Lance Corporal Peter Zator and Lance Corporal Ibrahim who were escorting the cargo truck on an unregistered motorbike

Upon their arrest, they admitted having stolen the items from the Osagyefo Power barge and were packing them to an undisclosed location before they were pounced on by police.

Chief Inspector David Kuwornu who is in charge of the case, has revealed that the truck together with the stolen items and the motorbike have been impounded with the suspects including Joseph Baidoo, Abdulai Issah and Usif Sulley are in police custody assisting them with their investigations.
