Manhyia Dismisses Rumours About Missing Otumfuo Funds Money

The Manhyia Palace in Kumasi has dismissed rumours that an unspecified amount of money belonging to the palace got missing during the recent visit of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu to the United States. Sources said the money belonged to a member of the of the protocol team on the delegation.

Rumours in the Kumasi metropolis suggest that the missing money was realised from donations and contributions by Ghanaian residents abroad to the Otumfuo Educational Trust Fund. Figures quoted ranged between 450 and 500 thousand dollars.

Speaking to LUV FM in Kumasi, an official of the Manhyia secretariat, Mr. A S Y Andoh said even though an official of the Asantehene's officers lost his briefcase containing money in various currency denominations at an American airport, he failed to mention the exact amount involved. Observers however believe the money involved runs into thousands of dollars and pounds.

Mr. Andoh condemned those peddling such rumours about the Manhyia palace adding that there is no way officials of the palace would entrust such an amount of money to the protocol officer since the palace has a finance officer.
