Manhunt For Sodomy Suspect

*Freddie and Gina Blay Lead Task Force to Ellembele*

In a desperate bid to clear their image from the sexual assault on a 12-year-old boy on their property, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Blay, owners of Daily Guide newspaper, over the weekend stormed Ellembele Constituency in the Western Region in an attempt to apprehend the sodomy perpetrator, one Mr. Ohene, said to be hiding there.

The Herald’s sources at both their American House residence near East Legon and the offices of Daily Guide newspaper at Nima Junction in Accra, said that the couple spent time in the Western Region looking for the anus raider, who has been on the run since July.

Although Ohene could not be found, additional information coming in from close sources to the Blay family indicate that lawyer Godfred Yeboah Dame of Nana Akufo-Addo’s chambers and the pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), have been tasked to drag The Herald and The Informer newspapers to court for reporting on the defilement incident.

What is shocking is that The Ghanaian Lens newspaper which first broke the news, is to be excluded from the legal battle, according to explicit instructions from the Blay Family, as it makes history by being the first newspaper owners in this country to drag other newspapers to court to save a supposed dented image, The Herald learnt.

Meanwhile, the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, have also mounted a massive manhunt for Ohene over the defilement of the minor via his anus, on July 27, 2011.

Mr. Ohene, said to be a married man with three children and hails from Nzema in the Western Region, on July 27, this year, lured the victim into a property belonging to Western Publications, which is reportedly being prepared for a radio station, and forcible thrusted his penis into the anus of the boy, and discharged semen in him.

The boy reported his ordeal to his mother who made a report to the Nima Police at about 2:00 am. A police search for the rapist, however, proved futile.

Subsequently, a section of the media picked up the news, with some reporting the crime as having taken place on the premises of Daily Guide, and the perpetrator described as a nephew of Mr. Blay.

Mr. Blay denied any relationship with the suspect, and threatened court action. However, he acknowledged knowing the pedophile as somebody hailing from his Constituency – Ellembele – and whom he had previously given money for a social function in the Constituency.

Mr. Ohene was subsequently linked to one Boso, said to be aspiring for the Ellembele seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Blay is believed to be sponsoring Boso, since he had declined the offer from NPP to represent them in the Ellembele Constituency. Sources close to Daily Guide say that Boso is a frequent visitor to the newspaper, and Ohene had often been seen in his company.

Media reports on the issue have impacted negatively on Mr. Blay who had represented the Ellembele Constituency for twelve years in parliament and also served variously as the First and Second Deputy Speaker.

Though he has been visiting the Ellembele Constituency to shore up support for Boso, last weekend’s visit was believed to be a visit to apprehend Ohene, whose alleged stupid act has scandalized Mr. Blay, his spouse and Daily Guide.

Meanwhile, The Herald appeal for fund, inviting the sympathetic and benevolent public to come to the aid of the defiled boy and his two other siblings, is yielding some impressive response.

The sodomy victim and his brothers lost their father two years ago, and their mother is the only person supporting them from the sales of roasted plantain, corn and yam, near the Nima Police Station in Accra.

They all stay in a tiny chamber and-a-hall rented room near Nima Roundabout, in Accra.

According to his mother, taking care of the three boys and their education is proving very difficult for her.

It is for this reason that The Herald is asking the public to donate generously to an appeal fund, first for the medical treatment of the boy, whose anus has been savagely assaulted, and secondly, to help him and his brothers go back to school.

Already, a lady who has been touched by this paper’s story and who wants to remain anonymous, last Friday donated GH¢ 200.00 to the fund, which has been given to the fatherless family to meet the expenses of their rounds to and from the Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOSSU) office of the Police Service at the Ministries Police Station, which has taken over the case from the Nima Police.

All well-wishers who would want to support the boy and his siblings through school, by way of donation, can call Miss. Gifty Arthur on 0243665142.
