Man who stole pastor’s car says he intended returning it after ‘chilling’

A 24-year-old man who stole a pastor’s SUV Sunday dawn at Kojokrom in the Western Region with the intention of returning it has been arrested in the Central Region.

Baba Ali who is a driver-cum-driver’s mate told investigators he stole the Toyota Rav 4 Sunday dawn to go and “chill” a little in Cape Coast and that he had planned to return it later.

The pastor, Rev. Bena Dankwah of Higher Grounds Assemblies of God Church at Tanokrom had fuelled the car full tank as he had planned to use it church only to wake up Sunday morning to find the car missing from where it was parked.

He reported the matter to the Kojokrom Police, which issued alert to all stations.

On Monday, the Police in the Central Region spotted Baba Ali driving the vehicle and caused his arrest.

The police found on him two bunch of car keys.

Baba Ali has been identified as a resident of sabu zongo of Kojokrom who has gained notoriety for stealing car batteries and other car parts.

He is being processed for court, the Police said.

Meanwhile Rev Dankwah told Connect FM he made the stolen car his prayer topic in church on Sunday and was thus thankful to God for its recovery.

“I am so happy. God has answered our prayers,” he said when he received the vehicle from the Police.

“The only thing missing from the car is a calculator, but that’s alright”, he stated, sounding relieved and happy.
