Man remanded for defilement

Accra (Greater Accra) - An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Tuesday remanded in prison custody, Daniel Clottey, a fisherman, who allegedly defiled a 10 year-old girl at James Town.

Clottey, 24, who pleaded not guilty, would reappear on July four. The prosecution’s case was that the complainant lives with the victim at James Town in Accra and on June 10, this year, the accused saw the victim who was selling iced water.

Clottey is said to have bought some of the water but gave her 5,000 cedis, which she could not get a change for. The accused then gave the victim the 50 cedis but later accused her of stealing his 5,000 cedis.

Clottey then lured the girl into his room and defiled her and then threatened to kill her if she ever disclosed the ordeal to anyone.

When the victim went home, she narrated the incident to her sister who reported the matter to the police.
