Man jailed two years for theft

A 32 year-old tailor caught with stolen household appliances has been ordered by the Juaso Circuit Court to serve two years in prison.

Martin Affican was given the punishment after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Birikorang Peasah, told the court, presided over by Mr. Fredrick Tetteh, that the convict was arrested at the Konongo “Low Cost” area.

People in the neighbourhood had lately experienced series of theft of their household appliances and other valuables and they decided to mount surveillance on Affican, who they suspected was behind these.

The prosecution said he was arrested and handed him over to the police on October 17, when one of the residents reported of his missing bunch of plantain.

A search of his room conducted by the police uncovered some of the stolen items – a generator, four gas cylinders, five stoves, a multi-TV decoder, rice cooker and a sewing machine.
