A Circuit Court in Accra has sentenced a 38-year-old unemployed man to six years imprisonment for robbing a resident of Nungua of an Itel mobile phone valued at GH¢350.00

The convict, Thomas Kwabena Vordzorgbe, was found guilty of robbery after a full trial presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, but he had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to graphiconline.com report on August 5, 2025, prosecuting, Chief Inspector John Gohoho told the court that the complainant, a Nigerian national from Delta State residing at Nungua Cocoa Beach, had on November 11, 2022, gone to a popular joint at Spintex to socialise with friends and left the venue around 3:00 am the next day.

Vordzorgbe, who saw the complainant from a distance, followed him to the station and demanded that he hands over his belongings.

When the complainant resisted, the convict pulled out a machete and slashed him on the left hand, forcing him to surrender the phone.

The matter was reported to the Nungua Police Station, and the complainant was issued a medical form for treatment.

Later that day, around 7:00 pm, the complainant received information that the convict was offering the stolen phone for sale at the Nungua Lorry Station.

With assistance from others, the complainant confronted and identified Vordzorgbe, leading to his arrest.

A search led them to the stolen phone in his possession, and he admitted to the offence in his cautioned statement.
