Man jailed 14 years for defilement

A 47-year-old man accused of defiling a minor is to serve 14 years in prison. The Kumasi Gender Court, presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu convicted Kofi Gyamfi after he had pleaded guilty to the offence.

The crime was committed at Afrancho-Bronkong in the Afigya-Kwabre District.

The victim, a school girl, had seen the convict carrying some tubers of yam and offered to help him.

Police Chief Inspector Rose Essuman told the court that this happened on March 21 at about 1530 hours.

“When they got to the house (then empty at the time) with the yams, Gyamfi lured her into the room of a co-tenant and sexually assaulted her,” she said.

According to her, the co-tenant returned in good time to catch the convict right in the act and informed the victim’s family.

A formal report was consequently made to the police and he was arrested.
