Man in trouble after giving medicine to girlfriend

Accra Feb. 5, GNA - A 25-year old man who allegedly gave some tablets to his pregnant girlfriend to swallow and insert when she had complained of abdominal pains and after taking them landed at the hospital was on Tuesday remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court for causing abortion.

Rahinatu Adam 19, a porter is till on admission at the Korle Bu teaching Hospital where she had lost her baby after taking the tablets. Yahaya Oluu who pleaded not guilty is to reappear on February 12. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Abavelim, prosecuting, said the victim lived at Konkonba market in Accra and had been in relationship with the accused for a year. On January 31, this year the victim, who was seven months pregnant started experiencing abdominal pains. Prosecution said the victim went to Oluu to demand money to enable her to visit the hospital.

The accused person gave the victim two Ghana cedis and three whitish tablets to swallow and insert the other with the aim of reducing her abdominal pain.

Prosecution said soon after taking the drugs, the victim started experiencing vaginal pains, but realizing that she was in danger and bleeding profusely the victim escaped and the case was reported to the Police at Old Fadama where a medical form was issued to her and she was admitted at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
