A 19-year-old self-employed Kofi Egbe on Thursday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly having anal sex with an 11-year-old boy at Tudu in Accra.
Charged with defilement, Egbe has pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Ms Ellen Vivian Amoah remanded Egbe into custody to reappear on February 13 while the victim has been sent to a shelter home in Osu.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire prayed the court to remand Egbe in custody as they were afraid he might interfere with their investigations.
Chief Inspector Atimbire said the victim lived at Kasoa, but run away from the house on January 26, 2014 after his mother had beaten him.
Prosecution said the victim came to Tudu and was selling pure water. While selling the water, he came into contact with the accused person and the victim gave him (Egbe) Ghc4.00 for safe keeping.
At night, prosecution said Egbe lured the victim to his sleeping place near the National Theater, Accra, and had sex with the victim through his anus.
On January 27 this year, the victim was sitting down quietly on a pavement at Tudu and one Fume Jonas asked him what was bothering him and he let the cat out of the bag.
Prosecution said as Egbe passed by at the vicinity, the victim identified him and he was arrested. When the accused person was confronted, he denied the offence.
Prosecution said the Police issued the victim with a medical form for examination and treatment, adding, Egbe has since refunded the victim’s Ghc3.00 out of the Ghc4.00 he gave him.
