Man goes in for 15 years for defiling a cripple

Hohoe, Aug 1, GNA- Godwin Gbado, a taxi driver at Akpafu-Mempeasem in the Hohoe District, is to spend 15 years in prison for defiling a 12-year-old cripple and five years for having carnal knowledge of an imbecile, the cripple.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Gbado pleaded guilty to two counts of defilement and having carnal knowledge of an imbecile.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Slim Poku-Manford told the Court, that on July 23, Gbado went to the house where the victim was staying with her parents to buy some fish.

He said Gbado took advantage of the absence of the victim's parents and dragged her from the veranda where she was sitting in a wheel chair to an obscure corner of the house and forcibly defiled her.

Mr Poku-Manford said the mother of the victim chanced on the spectacle and raised an alarm that brought her husband to the scene.

Gbado escaped and the victim's father reported the incident to the Assemblyman of the area Mr Lawrence Atri. Gbado confessed to having defiled the girl and pleaded for leniency with the assurance that he would pay the medical bill of the victim.

He said the victim's father reported the matter to the police.
