Man butchers neighbour over girlfriend's break up

Dwendwenease (Ash), Aug. 27, GNA - A man who went to the rescue of a woman who was being harassed by her daughter's boyfriend suffered multiple machete wounds on Wednesday.

The victim, whose name was only given as Abulai, was taken to the Juaso District Hospital but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in critical condition.

His assailant, Akwasi Kusasi, a palm wine taper, is said to have been beaten by residents and is on admission at the Juaso District Hospital.

Nana Kwadwo Kumi, Gyasehene of Dwendwenease who witnessed the incident, told the Ghana News Agency that Akwasi was the boyfriend of one Akua Afriyie whom he had subjected to beating on several occasions. He said on Wednesday Akua returned from the house of Akwasi and informed her mother that Akwasi had assaulted her. Moments later Akwasi emerged and requested to take Afriyie back home but her mother refused.

Akwasi pushed her and this drew some young men including Abulai to come to her rescue.

Akwasi pulled a machete from his trousers, pounced on Abulai, and inflicted wounds on his head, rib and hands after which he took to his heels but he was arrested and handed over to members of the Area Council

Detective Inspector Dominic Osei of the Juaso Police confirmed the incident and said police were waiting for the victim to recover to start investigations.
