Man Kills Pregnant Wife

SHOCK AND misery rocked Adiemera, a farming community in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region yesterday after a 27-year-old man killed his pregnant wife-to-be in an unexplained circumstance and fled.

Yaw Kyei, a galamsey operator from Anhwiaso in the same district, allegedly took the bloody action after luring 20-year-old Yaa Akyeamaa from her Pipiso hometown near Adansi-Aboabo No.2 to the Adiemera community on Wednesday afternoon around 2:00pm.

The suspect, DAILY GUIDE gathered, did not show any signs of frustration or anguish before the incident.

Yaa Akyeamaa, who was pregnant for the suspect, was hit with a club from behind by her boyfriend, who was known to the deceased person’s family as her fiancé.

According to the mother of the deceased, Ama Kuma, the suspect visited them on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 and said he was taking Yaa to his place of abode at Adiemera.

Before they departed, Madam Kuma said she cooked ‘omo tuo’ for the two love birds, who were in an ecstatic mood.

“I left them behind to eat, and by the time I returned home they had left to Adiemera where Kyei was a resident,” Ama Kuma stated amidst sobs.

She narrated that one of her sons, on Thursday evening, reported to her that Kyei had called to inform him that he (Kyei) had killed Yaa Akyeamaa and dumped the body beside a certain stream at Adiemera.

Confirming the bloody incident, father of the deceased, Akwasi Boateng, told journalists that Yaw Kyei killed Yaa Akyeamaa for reasons best known to the suspect alone.

He narrated that his daughter had been in a relationship with the galamsey operator for the past two years, which relationship was known to them.

According to him, Kyei called to inform him he had killed Yaa Akyeamaa and dumped the body at an unknown place, and that he had subsequently turned himself in at a police station in Kumasi.

Mr. Boateng said the suspect added that the place could only be located by his friend, whose name he could not recollect.

He narrated further that after his wife also returned home with a similar story, they both proceeded to Adiemera where they informed the chief and unit committee members about the reported incident.

The girl’s father said they moved with a search party to look for the dead body, which was discovered later around 10:00pm on Thursday on the bank of River Atentem at Adiemera.

According to Mr. Boateng, there were cuts on his deceased daughter’s chin, left hand, chest and eyebrows, raising suspicion of a struggle before her death.

He indicated that Yaw Kyei did not openly show any signs of frustration or resentment towards his daughter, who was pregnant for the suspect.

DSP Daniel Anane Amoah, Fomena Police Commander, who confirmed the incident, told DAILY GUIDE the suspect had since gone into hiding after the incident, while the police had mounted a manhunt for him.

He said the body of the young woman had been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue in Kumasi, awaiting autopsy while police investigations continued.
