A 40-year-old farmer, Lumorvi Adzia is reported to have butchered his wife, Sylvia Adzia, a 30-year-old trader and farmer, over a domestic misunderstanding.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Bedie who disclosed this to reporters in Ho, noted that Lumorvi severed both arms of his wife, also known as Baby, and inflicted several wounds on her head.
He had intended to chop off her head which she blocked with both arms.
The incident happened on 24th July, 2012 at about 10:30am. Lumorvi is currently on the run and is suspected to be in the republic of Togo.
The Police Commander mentioned that the couple had been married for about 5 years and had two kids.
They had been living in Dzramave near Ziope in the Adaklu-Anyigbe district of the Volta Region.
In the early hours of that fateful day, the victim prepared food which the entire family ate. The couple then went to the farm to harvest tomatoes.
At about 10:00 am the suspect, Lumorvi, sent his wife to buy gari and sugar. After taking the gari, a misunderstanding ensued between them.
In the process, Lumorvi became annoyed and attempted to beat his wife. The wife threatened to divorce her husband if he beat her.
Apparently that was not the first time Lumorvi had beaten up and maltreated his wife.
This did not deter the husband, who approached the wife with anger. The wife, sensing danger, took to her heels, but the husband chased her with a cutlass. He caught up with her and kicked her to the ground.
Lumorvi then raised the cutlass with the intent of chopping off Sylvia’s head which she blocked with her hands. In the process both hands were chopped off followed by deep gushes to the head.
Lumorvi, realizing his crime, took to his heels and escaped from the witnesses who were responding to the screams of Sylvia.
Sylvia became unconscious but was fortunately found by neighbours in a pool of blood. They immediately took her to the Ziopi Clinic where she was referred to the Regional Hospital fondly called “Trafalgar”.
DCOP Alex Bedie noted that Sylvia is currently responding to treatment.
He added that the Police was doing everything possible to apprehend Lumorvi and also pleaded with the public to volunteer any information that may lead to his arrest.
