Man ,65, defiles 7-year pupil

The Mpraeso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Kwaku Osei, on Thursday sentenced a 65-year-old revenue collector to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a seven-year-old pupil.

Yaw Owusu, the revenue collector, pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Andrews Anim Yirenkyi told the court that Owusu, the victim and their parents live at Bepong in the Kwahu South District.

He said on March 4 the victim left the house to attend to the call of nature at a public toilet where Owusu works as the revenue collector.

The prosecutor said after paying her fee, the victim asked for a piece of toilet roll but Owusu refused to give it to her and while she was leaving the toilet, Owusu called her into his kiosk, ordered her to remove her pant after which he sexually assaulted her.

Inspector Yirenkyi said after satisfying himself, Owusu drove the girl away and warned her not to disclose her ordeal to anyone.

He said the victim however went to inform her guardian who took her to the chief’s palace to report Owusu’s conduct.

The chief later invited Owusu to the palace where he admitted the offence and was handed over to the police.**
