Man, 43, jailed 17 years for defilement

Kumasi, Jan. 21, GNA – Christopher Vuulob alias “Gyambora” , a 43-year-old laundryman has been sentenced to 17 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court for defiling a 5-year-old girl.

He pleaded guilty to the crime.

Police Chief Inspector James Amekah told the Court presided over by Justice Rita Agyemang Budu that both the convict and the victim live at Atasomanso and that the aunty of the girl left for work on December 31, 2011, and returned home at about 1400 hours only to be told by a co-tenant that blood was found oozing out of her niece’s private parts in her absence.

The prosecution said upon questioning the victim told the aunty how Vuulob had lured her into his room and sexually abused her.

A formal report was therefore made to the Ashanti Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victims’ Support Unit (DOVVSU) leading to his arrest and confession. Police Chief Inspector Amekah said a medical report signed by doctors who attended to her confirmed that she had been defiled.
