The Asamankese police has arrested a 34-year-old drug peddler, Jonathan Dada for possessing 10 bags compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect was arrested at Empekom, a suburb of Asamankese in the Eastern region in an attempt to transport the bags of weed to Dodowa in the Greater Accra region.

Two other accomplices are on the run.

A member of the Neighborhood Watch Committee of Empekom told Starr News, they were embarking on their surveillance routine in the community at about 2:30 am Tuesday when they "became suspicious of the activities of the three suspects. They were actually standing behind a taxi cab in the darkness in an attempt to load the bags so we approached them but two managed to escape"

Asamankese Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Wisdom Akorli confirming the incident to Starr News said, the police received calls from the Neighborhood Watch Committee and quickly dispatched Police Officers to the scene.

He explained that, the Opel taxi cab with registration number ER 597N onboard by the suspects has been impounded while the suspect is in police custody assisting investigation.

Chief Superintendent Akorli said the exhibits will be sent to a Laboratory for examination to aid prosecution.
