President John Mahama on Sunday paid a visit to Asante Mampong to commiserate with the family of the victims of last month’s fire disaster.

On June 3, a fire outbreak at Worakese, a community in the Asante Mampong municipality consumed six people to death. The victims included a father and four children as well as another man who, according to reports, was on a visit that day.

President Mahama after his “Accounting to the People” tour of the Upper West region was in Kumasi for a function at KNUST after which he called on the Municipal Chief Executive of Asante Mampong to arrange his meeting with the families of the fire victims.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, John Alexander Ackon, speaking on the maiden edition of Abusua 96.5 FM’s morning show, ‘Abusua Nkomo’ hosted by Kwame Adinkrah revealed that President Mahama donated a sum of GH¢15,000 to the bereaved families.

“The President took time to visit the families who lost their loved ones to the fire outbreak at Asante Mampong last month including the two women who both lost their husbands – one of them lost all her four children,” he said.

Hon. Ackon added: “The President wished them his deepest condolences and handed a cash of GH¢5,000 each to the two widows as well as another GH¢5,000 to their (extended) families.”

The President also sent a delegation led by Local Government Minister, Collins Dauda, to Asawase to attend to last week’s Sallahfest stampede in the Asawase Constituency. The stampede claimed nine lives.

President Mahama has since moved to the Upper East region to continue his “Accounting to the People” tour.
