Malaria continues to be the highest among the top 10 morbidity cases in the Sunyani Municipality from January to June.
Out of the 103,678 top 10 morbidity cases reported in 28 health facilities in the municipality, malaria had 63,568 representing 52 per cent as against 45 per cent within the same period last year.
The top 10 morbidity cases are Acute Respiratory Tract Infections (ARTI) 11,552, acute eye infection 6,109, diarrhoea 3,960, hypertension 4,256, skin diseases and ulcer 3,777, intestinal worms 3,428, rheumatism and joint pains 2,402, anaemia 2,632 and gynaecological conditions 1,994.
Mr. Samuel Addo, Brong Ahafo Regional Disease Control Officer, told the GNA in an interview that it was important especially pregnant women, children and the aged whose immune systems were not strong to sleep under ITNs all the time to prevent mosquito bites.
Mr. Addo expressed concern that in spite of efforts by the Government and some NGOs to minimise malaria through free distribution of ITNs, malaria cases are were still high.
