"Make Lent Season Alcohol-Free"- Bishop urges Catholics.

Bolgatanga, March 11, GNA- The Right Reverend Lucas Abadamloora, Catholic Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese on Wednesday, called on Catholics to abstain from taking alcoholic beverages during the Lent season.

Lent is a calendar period for Catholics all over the world for repentance and renewal in preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Bishop made the call in a pastoral letter read on his behalf by Reverend Moses Akebule, Parish Priest of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bolgatanga, to usher in the Lent season.

He noted that most of the street children in Ghana today could be traced to homes that were broken as a result of alcoholism. Bishop Abadamloora spoke against the high rate of alcoholism at funerals and social gatherings, and urged parents to channel such monies to the education of their children.

He said the lent fast should also enable Christians to help the deprived in society.
