Passengers of the evening shuttle train between Accra and Tema had a scare of their lives when the train started receding at Airport halt after alighting some passengers Tuesday evening.
According to a passenger, the train which had near 150 passengers, was receding at a fast speed and the handlers appeared to have lost control of the coach.
“The train had alighted some passengers at Airport halt and so we were supposed to continue our journey to Tema but suddenly the train started going back with a massive speed and people started crying and praying to God and the handlers couldn’t stop it.
"After a while it appeared to have approached a hilly area on the rail and begun edging forward again, and that’s what saved us. The handlers had no answers for us when we asked them, it was just God,” frightened Kwabena Acheampong narrated the ordeal to Starrfm.com.gh.
He said regular passengers on the train shared stories of some irregular movements in the coaches in recent times.
The Akufo-Addo government is trying to revamp the rail sector to make it an efficient means of transport in the country. Major railway lines in the country and some leading outside the country are being improved.
