Assertions by former President Mahama that he his government, left a lot of money in the state coffers for Nana Akufo-Addo and his government in January 2017 has been refuted by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

According to the Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, former President Mahama, took home millions of dollars but left the nation with money that couldn’t significantly impact on our economy.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi noted that former President Mahama is envious of President Akufo-Addo and the rapid development that has taken place within his short stay in office and for this reason, is making assertions he left him with enough money to build Ghana.

“All the development and achievements of President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia is as a result of the prudent measures they were put in place and not this government's over reliance on the empty coffers Mahama left behind. Before Mahama left office, he had millions in his personal account and that was hundred times more than what he left in the coffers of Ghana.”

Chairman Wontumi continued that because former President Mahama had developed his own motive to empty the state coffers, he deliberately told Ghanaians on 21st February, 2013, when he addressed the nation in Parliament that ‘the meat has all been consumed, leaving only the bones to chew.’

Based on the above point, Chairman Wontumi explained that the NDC led by Mr. Mahama, devised ways to milk the state and when confronted, they granted excuses that there was no money in the state coffers, Chairman Wontumi added.

“If there was no money like he is claiming how come his appointees like Ablakwa started storing huge sums of money in his car boot only for his personal driver to steal some GH?25,000? Again former President Rawlings told us that young boys who served under Mahama were able to pay $3 million cash to purchase houses just after they left power.

Where were they getting the monies from? Did they vomit it or Mahama handled it over to them in their dreams? You people come to serve and milk the nation dry and when we have a President like Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia doing what is right, you allow Satan to put jealousy in you.”

“Even if Mahama ruled Ghana for 12 years, trust me he can’t do half of what President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia have done in their 2 years. What I know would happen is that there would be no money left in Ghana’s coffers”, Chairman Wontumi said.

In an address to delegates of the NDC at Asankragwa as part of his five-day flagbearership campaign tour of the Western Region, Mr Mahama touched on money inherited from various sources by the NPP administration when they took over the reigns of government on 7th January, 2017.

He explained that his administration left behind 200 million US Dollars in the Ghana
Infrastructure Development Fund, GHC700 million in the Road Fund and money from cocoa
syndication, among others.
