Mahama supports Alan because of his track-record - Mumuni

The African Union has selected former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, as its candidate for the directorship of the World Trade Organisation.

The Union arrived at the decision after President Mahama lobbied other African countries in Equatorial Guinea to support the candidature of Mr Kyeremanteng.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Mohammed Mumuni, who took part in the 7th summit of the ACP countries in Equatorial Guinea has rejected claims that the move by the President is an attempt to quell the presidential ambition of Mr Kyeremanteng.

Speaking to XYZ News’ Kwame Danso Acheampong, Alhaji Mumuni said the government only put the matter before the AU to court the support of the world for a competent Ghanaian.

“President Mahama in calling on his colleagues to support his candidature emphasized the point that Alan Kyeremanteng in eminently qualified. He has a good track record as a minister of Trade and he has a good understanding of trade issues and matters,” Alhaji Mumuni explained.

He indicated that Alan Kyeremanteng consented to this support given him by the president and, therefore, has nothing to do with an attempt to crash the presidential ambitions of Mr. Kyeremanteng.
