Unlike President Akufo-Addo, former President Mahama made available looted cash and goodies during Christmas season to make him look like a man with pure heart, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has said.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, was directly responding to claims by the former leader that this years’ Christmas uder President Akufo-Addo is the “driest” ever.

According to Mr. Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the main reason Mr. Mahama could say this was because the former President “used Christmas as an occasion to loot cash and goodies” to give to innocent Ghanaians as an attempt to buy their vote”.

The Ashanti Regional boss of the NPP noted that “former President Mahama had no shame diverting state resources meant for development into organizing jams and drinking expensive cognac whilst the people who voted him into office suffered”.

Drawing a comparison between President Akufo-Addo and former President Mahama, Chairman Wontumi stated that “whilst we have a President who is busy ensuring fiscal discipline in the management of our public finances is attained, former President Mahama wants him to go off track and harm the state coffers”.

In an address to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday, 17 December 2018, Mr Mahama said: “I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year knowing fully well that most Ghanaian families are going to go through the driest Christmas I’ve ever experienced in the history of Ghana because you are going through excruciating economic difficulties”.

He continued that “We will continue to put pressure on this government to push back on their insensitive economic conditions even as we offer hope for better times under the new NDC administration, which, God willing, will assume office on 7 January 2021”.

But Chairman Wontumi quipped that the former President sounded too desperate and had easily forgotten that Ghanaians know President Akufo-Addo is wiping the mess he left behind.

He added that Ghanaians prefer to enjoy Christmas where there is the “introduction of free senior high school education in Ghana, restoration of teacher trainee and nursing trainee allowances, increased stability in our economy, declining inflationand interest rates to that of the looting squad Mr. Mahama headed as President”.

Chairman Wontumi thanked President Akufo-Addo for creating the ministry for Zongo and Inner City development along with the Zongo Development Fund and was thankful to him for the law establishing the Northern, Middle Belt and Coastal Development Authorities.

Under President Akufo-Addo, Chairman Wontumi explained the resort to sole sourcing for contracts has dramatically reduced and praised him for increasing the share of the district assemblies common fund for persons with disabilities from 2% to 3%. Something, he claimed the President Mahama promised but never did.

He ended by informing former President Mahama that he could decide to overlook the success of President Akufo-Addo but must be reminded that business confidence in Ghana’s economy is on the rise and international sovereign credit ratings agencies like Fitch and Standard & Poors have upgraded our ratings.

“Mahama, I can tell you would keep the NDC in opposition for a very long time. Life isn’t all about party and Christmas, he must get serious”, Chairman Wontumi said.
