Mahama promises sustainable jobs for the youth

President John Dramani Mahama says his government is willing to cooperate with organized labour in order to create meaningful and sustainable jobs.

The President said the demography of Ghana’s population requires that more attention is geared towards creating jobs for the youth.

President Mahama made the remarks when members of the Trade Union Congress paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House on Friday.

“We face a changing demographic in our country where the youthful population is expanding rapidly…so for us the priority should be to accelerate the economy as quickly as possible so that it throws out more sustainable jobs” President Mahama said.

He added “so we are willing to work with you in that regard and continue to put our heads together to see how we can expand the job market to absorb more of our young people into steady employment”.

For his part the General Secretary of the TUC Kofi Asamoah said the congress is willing to help the government succeed but will not tolerate any attempt to compromise the interest of workers in the country.
