Mahama has enough time to correct his mistakes - Oboshie

A former Information Minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Oboshie Sai-Coffie has said despite the current mess that Ghana finds itself in; President John Mahama has enough time to correct his mistakes and turn things around.

The Ghanaian economy has undergone critical conditions for some time now amidst rising inflation, a depreciating currency, high budget deficit amongst others.

Inflation currently stands at 15.3 percent - the highest rate since February 2010. Year-on-year inflation accelerated from 14.0 percent in February mainly due to higher cost of housing, water and electricity, transport, health, food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Since the beginning of the year, the Ghana Cedi has also depreciated by 40 percent against the major foreign currencies - the US dollar, British Pound and the Euro - according to the opposition NPP.

President Mahama in August 2014 directed that immediate initiatives be taken to open discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other development partners in support of Ghana’s programme for stabilisation and growth.

Speaking in an interview with Richard Sky on the Citi Eyewitness News Monday, Sai-Coffie, who is also a staunch supporter of Nana Akufo-Addo, stated that between now and 2016 when the next elections would be held, President Mahama has enough time to transform the economy.

She, however, added that whatever happens between now and 2016, Akufo-Addo should be given the opportunity by Ghanaians to lead this country.
