Mahama assures GAF of support to combat crime

President Mahama says government will provide all the necessary operational logistics to the Ghana Armed Forces to enable them fight crimes and protect the territorial integrity of Ghana effectively.

According to him, government will continue with the retooling of the service in order to enhance its efficiency.

“I wish to assure you that government will continue to work with you to ensure that our Armed Forces is modern and meets the requirements of the mandate that it is given by the constitution”.

President Mahama added that “you will also be required to cooperate with other services in various respects in terms of combating armed robbery, illegal mining and logging and providing maritime security including recent piracy…also with the fight drug trafficking and arms smuggling.

President Mahama made the remarks at the swearing in ceremony of the newly appointed Chief of Defense Staff, Real Admiral Mathew Quashie and the Armed Forces Council at the Flagstaff House on Thursday.

He urged the armed forces to continue to maintain a cordial relationship with members of the public.
