Mahama Makes Promises Without Providing Cost – Nana Akomea

A non-scientific survey of the campaign promises being made by the Presidential candidates of the various political parties, places President John Dramani Mahama miles ahead of his compatriots in terms of the one who has made the highest number of promises.

Nana Akomea, Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is therefore asking the president to give Ghanaians the cost and time limit of his avalanche of electoral promises.

According to him, the President should be able to explain how he is going to fulfill all the promises he is ‘pouring’ on the electorate including the time frame within which he (President Mahama) intends to honour them.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Nana Akomea said making promises simply because it is an election year is needless.

“Everywhere President Mahama goes he makes promises without providing cost and time limits; he just bandies them about in the air…he said he will ensure that a degree certificate is awarded to Polytechnic students but this is something which is being done already…,” he said.

President Mahama over the weekend advised flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to sack his health policy advisors because they have failed to provide him (Nana) with the actual situation on ground. His remark was an apparent rebut to Nana Akufo Addo’s promise of provision of free healthcare to Ghanaians below 18.

But the NPP Director of Communications was of the opinion that it is rather President Mahama who “does not know what he is talking about and not Nana Akufo Addo.”

“Health is very important to everybody and what Nana Akufo Addo is saying is that he is going to make it free for those under 18. I think he didn’t understand what Nana Addo was talking about…,” Nana Akomea added.
