Mahama Flies in Helicopter, oblivious of bad roads - Eugene Arhin

Eugene Arhin, Press Secretary to the Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo-Addo has stated that President John Mahama is being disingenuous about the terrible road network in the Western region.

Mr. Arhin claimed President Mahama always flies in helicopters, hence his inability to witness bad roads in the region.

According to him, due to the deplorable nature of roads in the region, commuters travel within ten hours from Sekondi to Sefwi Wiaso.

He wondered why commuters spend such hours on the road when it could be fixed to reduce the time spent.

He indicated that majority of the chiefs in the region complained bitterly about the poor roads they always ply on.

‘It takes you ten hours to drive from Takoradi to Sefwi Wiaso, if the roads were really good would it take people that long, even from Accra to Bolgatanga will you spend that hours.

If the leader of the opposition party tells you that roads in the western region are terrible, and not him alone but chiefs of various towns, and if the president say we are lying, it’s up to him, at the end of the day am not surprise, he is always flying in helicopters so he doesn’t feel what the people go through, and wouldn’t know what we are talking about,’ he explained.

Nana on his tour of the Western region accused President Mahama of not fixing major roads in region.

But in a reaction, President Mahama said Nana Addo might have fallen asleep and so did not see the projects the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had embarked on in the region.

Speaking on Ultimate breakfast show hosted by Lantam Papanko, Mr. Arhin explained that the statement was indictment on the leader of the largest opposition party.

‘It’s an unfortunate statement by the first gentleman of the land to insinuate that the leader of the largest opposition party Nana Addo was sleeping during his tour of the Western region, and it’s a true indictment of the fact that as we have already stated…we visited northern part to down south and at the end of the day we didn’t see any good roads.

I can give you the list of chiefs who complained about their terribly road network, … and it’s not as if we were flying in helicopters as the president so he wouldn’t see the kind of bad roads we are talking about, we rode, I can bet the president to tell us which road that is a lie, it’s not for me to say or for the president to say,’ he asserted.

He advised the president to stop playing the gallery and fix the roads.
