A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), known as Maa Sankofa Foundation has been launched with the call on parents to encourage their children to learn.

According to the founder, Mrs. Adjo Palmer, the education of children is key as they are the future of the community and country.

Addressing parents, teachers and pupils at the launch which took place at the Osu Mantse's palace in Accra on Sunday, she said educating children for a better future was everyone's responsibility.

According to her, she returned to the country some time ago for her grandfather's funeral and upon seeing how some children were in dire need for educational materials, she was touched to start a foundation.

Mrs. Palmer added that her foundation is there to support deprived children and parents for a better future.

She added that through her own initiative and support from others in the diaspora, needy children would be selected from various schools across the country for support.

The Osu Doku Circuit Supervisor of Education, Madame Georgina Rabbles, expressed her appreciation to Maa Sankofa Foundation for their initiative.

She additionally expressed appreciation to the traditional authority for the support offered education in the community.

The Circuit Supervisor further urged the pupils to take their education seriously to become responsible adults in the future.

Maa Sankofa Foundation, distributed stationeries, sanitary pads, hand sanitisers, soaps, toothpastes, toothbrush among other things to the children.

The gesture was replicated in other parts of the country.
