MTTU descends on Tarkwa Nsuaem drivers

Tarkwa, June 5, GNA - Twenty drivers in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality were arraigned at court for irresponsible driving and other road offences i= n the first quarter of this year. They were arrested by the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service in Tarkwa Nsuaem. Fifteen of them were convicted and fined a total amount of 2,500 Ghana cedis, three of them were granted bail and the rest bonded to be of good conduct. The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Commander of the MTTU, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Isaac Kwasi Sorkpah, disclosed this to GNA a= t Tarkwa. He expressed worry that increase in the number of road accidents was due to lack of regular maintenance of vehicles, driving with fake license and under the influence of alcohol and over speeding. DSP Sorkpah said that about 95 per cent of road accidents in Ghana could have been avoided and advised drivers to be responsible on the road. He warned that the MTTU would deal drastically with any driver or perso= n who would violate the Road Traffic Act, to ensure sanity and decency on the road.
