Mobile Telecommunication giant, MTN, has continued to make the ‘Kobine Festival’ of the chiefs and people of Lawra Traditional Area a special and colourful one with its consistent support over the past seven years.
Ghana’s leading mobile network provider has once again presented a cheque of GHC5,000.00, MTN recharge cards worth GHC500.00 and assorted MTN souvenirs to the planning committee in support of the 41st Edition of ‘Kobine Festival’ celebration in Lawra.
Mr Stephen Asare, MTN Channel Development and Acting Mobile Money Manager for Northern Ghana, made the presentation to Chairman of the Planning Committee, Naa Gyetuo Naab II, on Saturday.
“We shall also support key activities including the Culture and Heritage Day celebration, health walk, grand durbar, football gala and bicycle race”, he said.
Mr Asare said MTN Ghana’s sponsorship of the ‘Kobine Festival’ for the seventh consecutive year is a demonstration of its commitment to brighten the lives of the people of the Lawra Traditional Area.
While thanking the chiefs and people of the area for making it possible for MTN to consistently enjoy the privilege of sharing in their joy and success, Mr Asare mentioned that over GHC600,000.00 have been invested in health, education and economic empowerment programmes in the Upper West Region.
Some of the projects embarked on in this region through the MTN Ghana Foundation include the Shea butter project for the “Sung Suma” Women’s Group at Kpaguri, MTN/UNDP ICT Centre of Learning at Hamile, and the Northern Ghana Water and Sanitation Project which involved the sinking of 20 boreholes for 20 communities in Wa East and Lawra Districts, he said.
The others are Nadowli Women Advocacy Group involving 115 schools and the Gwollu Community Library.
Mr Asare said the latest projects by the Foundation were the scholarship opportunity for Science, Mathematics and English teachers to pursue degrees and masters programmes and the Heroes of Change project that recognized and appreciated selfless people who through their own resources have helped to transform their communities.
He mentioned Sunday Special or Super Sunday Promotion, MTN Jara, Spin the Wheel, ‘Nkomode’ Promo, ‘Akwaaba’ Promo, MTN Pulse and MTN Mobile Money as some of the recent products and services the company was offering to help enrich the life of customers.
Naa Gyetuo Naab II, Chairman of the Kobine Festival Planning Committee, who received the donation on behalf of the Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area, Naa Puowele Karbo III, thanked MTN for consistently supporting the celebration of the festival for seven years going.
He urged the public to patronize MTN products and services to enable the company to continue to grow and offer more exciting services to all Ghanaians.
