MP wants Sports Minister to appear before parliament over AFCON exit

Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Kobena Mensah Wisdom Woyome has appealed to the Speaker of Parliament to invite the Minister for Youth and Sports to answer questions regarding AFCON and reasons of Ghana’s early exit from the competition in parliament.

According to him, the minister owes Ghanaians explanations, and this must be done accordingly.

Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars exited from the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the team lost to Tunisia on penalties last Monday in the round of 16.

Ghanaians have called for the sack of team’s head coach, Kwesi Appiah, following what they describe as an abysmal performance of the team at the competition.

Kobena Mensah Wisdom Woyome believes the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah must give an account of what happened before, during and after the AFCON.

“A lot of issues are out there agitating the minds of Ghanaians and there have been calls to invite the Minister to come to the house to tell the entire story on how everything went and what contributed to our early exit so that, at least, we are informed and get to know where we went wrong so that we can make amends.” He added, “We are in the times of normalizing our football so we need to know what’s really going on so that all those managing our football can take those things on board.”
