The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has unveiled a GH?100,000 Educational Fund to support students in his constituency.

The Fund, Kasapafmonline.com understands, is aimed at empowering them to attain greater heights in their educational ladder.

In addition to the Fund were 5,000 printed books that are expected to be distributed to schools within the constituency to compliment the efforts of the President to give quality education to every child within the country.

Commenting on the initiative at a short ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, Boamah, who is also the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, said the amount committed into the Fund is a seed money which would be disbursed annually to students within his constituency.

The Fund, he noted, is targeting brilliant but needy students in the constituency, especially, those in Junior High Schools and tertiary.

“My belief is that the country has offered me the opportunity and I must also support the young ones to also get to where I am today. That is where I take my inspiration from. This is a constituency in Accra but has a lot of poor people who need help. Sometimes, you go round the schools and the shoes that the kids wear, the books, pencils, basic teaching materials are all lacking,” he said.

He told journalists on the sidelines of the event he is often saddened by the situation around the schools in his constituency and wondered how they could compete with the advanced and more endowed private schools.

“The school structures don’t inspire me at all. I believe there is more that we have to do in the area of education and I believe the government is very committed to supporting the educational sector and the various initiatives that the President is introducing will go a long way to support the young ones here. So, we have parents who will be motivated to sponsor their own kids to attain the heights in the educational ladder.”
