The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo / Daboya constituency in the Northern Region Hon. Mutawakilu Adam has challenge Ghanaian to put behind any political colorization and begin facing realities about the economy.
According to the NDC MP, there will be no government or political party in power that would not increase fuel prices or utility bill when the needs to do so arise to save the economy.
He said ‘’is about time Ghanaians move away from getting things for free especially in the energy sector since their very expensive.
The NDC scribe said in an interview with this reporter that the government of Ghana spends $20 million dollars monthly to import crude oil in order to generate electricity to the country.
Hon. Mutawakilu suggested that public must learn to use electricity wisely and help government cut the huge amount of money that is being spent on generating electricity.
‘’Let’s us learn to conserve energy, put off all electric appliances in the house when going out except the most important once like the refrigerator’’, he advised.
The NDC law maker was of the view that in as much as the ruling party believes in social democratic system of government, institutions of state must be allowed to work and devoid of any intervention by any government official or the president.
He cited an example where the automatic tariff adjustment system was introduced and agreed by the stakeholder to determine the increase and reduction of utility prices, the interference by some individual due to public outcry would lead to undermining the system and make it inefficient to operate.
‘’Do we need institutions to build or we need government interventions all the time, as president Obama said let’s build strong institutions and let them work’’, he stated.
Hon. Mutawakilu indicated that the NDC has the responsibility to provide social amenities to the Ghanaian populace adding that ‘’ we have to make sure we increase access to health, electricity, education and housing to Ghanaians’’.
The Member of Parliament for Damongo in the Northern Region expressed optimistic that the NDC and John Mahama administration will no renege on their promises to the people of Ghana on improving their living conditions.
