MP`s house ransacked by robbers

Mr. Isaac Asiamah, MP for Atwima Mponua THE New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua, Mr. Isaac Asiamah, has become the latest legislator to fall victim to the heinous activities of robbers, after his residence was ransacked by some unidentified men late last night.

Mr. Isaac Asiamah arrived from a tour of his constituency in the Ashanti Region, to discover, to his utter dismay, that his Lashibi Community 8 apartment had been totally vandalised.

Personal belongings such as a television, two laptops, sets of furniture, and other valuable items had all been taken away by these unidentified people, who were suspected to have embarked on the operation last Sunday night.

"I arrived from a tour in my constituency this morning to discover that all my personal belongings have been taken away, no single item was left in the room. I am very lucky that I or any member of my family was not around when the incident happened."Mr. Asiamah told The Chronicle in a telephone interview from his base in Accra.

"It's amazing that no single item was left in my possession. They took almost everything of value in the house," he added.

While expressing profound gratitude to the Almighty God for saving his life, and that of his family from the nefarious robbers, Mr. Asiamah called on the government to beef up security for members of parliament and all citizens in the country.

He said he had made an official complain to the police, and was awaiting investigations into the incident.

Mr. Asiamah's ordeal follows a similar one which occurred on April 17 this year, when four armed men stormed the East Legon residence of the Kwadaso MP, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, while he was watching television with his family, and robbed him of valuable property before speeding away with a vehicle belonging to his visitor.

The incident raised a lot of questions about the personal security of members of parliament, compelling the Speaker of the House, Mrs. Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo, to direct the leadership of parliament to deliberate on safety measures for its members.
