Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has dismissed claims that sought to suggest that the embattled MP for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwaa, has petitioned the Speaker over the alleged slaps he received from the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

The regional party Chairman, aka, Wontumi, was arrested after he turned himself in to assist the Police to investigate an assault case reported against him by the NPP MP for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwaa, and the party’s constituency Secretary, Felix Ibrahim.

The duo claimed they were assaulted by Wontumi while observing the Limited Voter Registration exercise last Sunday, May 1, 2016, at a registration center called Nana Fodjour in Krofrom.

An invitation that was extended to him by the Regional Police Command last Monday, according to ASP Yusif Tanko, was turned down.

A Police warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.

Wontumi in an attempt to avoid any embarrassment turned himself in at the Tafo Divisional Police Command, Tuesday, May 3, 2016, where he had earlier, also reported an assault case against the Manhyia North MP.

The party chairman was therefore referred to the Regional Police Headquarters at Adum where he was detained and subsequently put behind after taking his statement.

He was then taken to court on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, where he was granted bail in the sum of GH?20,000.

Since then, speculations are rife that the aggrieved MP has officially lodged a complaint to the chief linguist of the country’s legislature about the conduct of his regional party chairman.

But Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu reacting to the issue on Accra-based Okay FM, Thursday, dismissed the reports.

According to him, from his interaction with Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, the Ghanaian leader, only got to know about the brawl between Ashanti Region NPP Chairman, aka Chairman Wontumi and the MP on the internet.

“I have heard that the matter is now before the Speaker of Parliament. So, I called to ask him (Speaker) if he has heard about the incident and he told me that he has read about it on the internet and besides, Collins has not called to inform him about the incident”, he noted.
