Mr Mark Woyongo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Navrongo central, has donated assorted medicines and toiletries to the inmates of the Navrongo Prison.
The donation followed an appeal made by the management of the Navrongo Prison to the MP and other stakeholders to support the inmates with those items.
Earlier in the year, the MP donated a bus to the Prison to help convey prisoners to health facilities and the court in Bolgatanga for trails.
The MP who was also the former Minister of Interior and Defense, appealed to other Philanthropists and organizations, particularly corporate bodies to support inmates across the country’s prison.
He entreated the general public not to see prisoners as outcasts but to support and help them adjust to fit well into society when they finish serving their terms and return home.
He admonished the inmates never to commit crimes that would send them back to the prison after they had finished serving their jail terms.
The MP also advised them to learn some vocational skills whilst in prison so that could they fend for themselves and their families when they are freed.
In another development, Mr Woyongo, as part of his efforts towards ensuring peaceful election before, during and after the 2016 general elections organised a football match competition among the youth in the thirty five electoral areas in the constituency.
He advised the youth who were drawn from the various political divide not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to foment trouble before, during and after the election.
The MP said apart from using the football competition to promote peace in the upcoming election, he would ensure that the various football teams were nurtured to become very formidable in the constituency.
“My intention is to also bring on board women and girls football teams in the near future. Apart from keeping the youth from engaging in other social vices, there is now job and wealth creation in the football game”, he said.
Two out of the thirty-five teams who emerged the winners were from Doba and Noxsinia. Noxsinia beat Doba 2-1 to emerge the overall winner. Both teams were presented with football boots, jerseys, and footballs.
