MP donates to Asawasi Sub-Metro Education Office

Kumasi, Sept 28, GNA - Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawasi, has presented items worth 4,000 Ghana cedis to the Asawasi Sub-Metro Education Office of the Ghana Education Service (GES), to help facilitate the monitoring and supervision of schools in the constituency. The items, a motorbike, one chargeable wireless amplifier and 80 plastic chairs, were bought from his share of the MP's Common Fund. The presentation also coincided with the inauguration of a 2,144 Ghana cedis refurbished building of the sub-metro office of which the MP contributed 1,800 Ghana cedis. Speaking at the function, Alhaji Mubarak said education was dear to his heart and promised to spend 65 per cent of his common fund on it when given the mandate in the December elections. He urged parents to assist teachers in the area in the upbringing of their children both academically and morally and to stop apportioning blame on teachers when they disciplined their wards in school. The MP also called on heads and teachers to work extra hard to improve the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results of the students in the constituency. Mr Nicholas Gyebi, Officer in-charge of the Asawasi Sub-Metro Education Office said the area had 34 kindergartens, 42 primary and 30 Junior High Schools with over 20,000 pupils. He praised the MP for his commitment to uplifting education in the constituency by sponsoring the education of many brilliant but needy children and incentive packages to hard working teachers. Mr Gyebi on behalf of the education directorate, thanked the MP for the gesture and assured that the items would be judiciously used. 28 Sept. 08
