MP deplores failures in WASSCE core subjects

Nkroful (W/R), April 23, GNA - Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembele, has described as unacceptable students' inability to pass English, Mathematics and Integrated Science in their final examinations. He said the situation was very disturbing and urged stakeholders in the education sector to identify the root cause of the problem and find appropriate solutions.

Mr Buah, also the Deputy Minister of Energy, said this at a meeting held with the Ellembele District Director of Education, Madam Dina Gyimah at Nkroful. The meeting was aimed at adopting practicable strategies to deal with the massive failures in the core subjects. He expressed his commitment to finding a solution to the problem by setting up a fund to support the course. In addition, his office had registered over 150 candidates for this year's November-December Examination to afford students the opportunity to re-write those subjects.

Madam Gyimah explained that the problem was nationwide and that if students were well equipped with examination techniques, the rate of such failures could be minimised. Madam Gyimah mentioned for example that candidates for the Basic Education Certificate Examination in the district were confident of being successful because they wrote two Mock Examinations organised by Mr Armah Kofi Buah and the District Assembly= .. She said her outfit would support the MP's initiative. 23 April 11
